Call for Divine Help

“As for me, I will call upon God, And the LORD shall save me.” -Psalm 55:16

Is there anything waking you up in the middle of the night? Anything constantly on your mind? Anything robbing you of your peace? I was at the breakfast table about to eat when I unknowingly caught myself staring in silence at my food. There it was, sitting there all cooked, my oatmeal with cut up strawberries mixed in, egg whites, and herbal tea. How can something so good, nutritious, and well put together might I add, cause me to be so indifferent, sad, and anxious?

David wrote these words in Psalm 55:16 out of distraught. He was discouraged, yet turned his attention to God. There is a line to being caught in disappointment and being stuck there. David wasn’t stuck. He made a conscious decision to call God to help him. He recognized that his need required divine assistance.

I too often can feel stuck in my emotions. I must train and command myself to look up in those moments of despair. Whether it is 3:00 in the morning, laying awake in the dark of my bedroom with anxious thoughts replaying over and over in my head, or daily interruptions as I do something as mundane as eat breakfast at home, something must push pause. Something must look up, or it will die.

David was calling for a Savior from his problems. We have a Savior, Christ, ready and able, strong and mighty. We have diving assistance in Jesus Christ. Call upon God today to save you from whatever is keeping you down. He is listening and He is faithful.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father,

I have no words but the ones of David to repeat: Save me.

In Jesus’ Name,

Amen.
