“And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; and perseverance, character; and character, hope. Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.” – Romans 5:3-5
I was in the middle of dancing in my home, excited at what the Lord was doing in my life, when all the sudden, I got a very unexpected email. My heart dropped. The joy I had been dancing in just a few seconds before, turned into fear, discouragement, and hopelessness.
While living for eternity, reality knocks so very often on our doors. It is God’s way of making sure we stay ready in season and out of season. It is God’s choice of how to shape our lives the way He sees fit. So yes, reality hit me. God was knocking and looking for my response to the situation.
Thankfully, I came across this word, “Embrace obstacles for they are part of every meaningful success story.” POW. What a mindset to adopt. Rather than beat yourself up as a result of these obstacles, decide to reframe the situation as God’s opportunity to get you to where you need to be.
Elizabeth Eliot, a missionary and author, said in one of her messages, “This earth is the only place where we will have the opportunity to suffer.” I’ve never heard it put together like that before. It is true. In heaven, there will be no suffering or pain. But is exists now on this earth. We can embrace our obstacles or our suffering, and use them to help us empathize with others.
If you and I will allow it, dear friend, let’s embrace our obstacles as God-given opportunities to propel us to where God is leading. Maybe that means reevaluating some things, changing directions, reworking schedules, or being more creative and prayerful in your decision-making. Whatever it is, start with running to Jesus, and doing what He tells you. Embrace it, sister. Your day of triumph is coming.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for these obstacles in my life. Show me what I need to change or do to be in Your perfect will. Help me embrace my suffering to bring about Your will for me. Strengthen me.
In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
