Dear Beloved,
How do you clothe yourself?
In Proverbs 31:25 it says, “Strength and dignity are her clothing” (ESV).
For the Proverbs 31 woman to clothe herself in strength and dignity, she must believe that this clothing is hers. She must first believe that her Heavenly Father perfectly knitted and tailored this to fit her. Before I continue, you were meant to be clothed and arrayed in such beauty.
Now what does strength mean? What does the clothing of strength look like?
The strength He is referring to is not of physical strength. He is referring to spiritual strength. Another word that can be used for strength is power.
Clothing ourselves in our own strength isn’t effective. Our strength is faulty and wavering, but if we draw strength from the true source, God Himself, we are ready for what the day may bring to us. How we clothe ourselves matters, ladies.
The clothing of strength looks like waking up in the morning and asking the Lord to clothe and array you in His strength so that we can face the day.
The Word of God makes it clear that you and I must clothe ourselves with strength and power. We cannot clothe ourselves in His strength and power if we aren’t abiding in our Heavenly Father. Why, you might ask? Because He is our one true source of strength.
So I will prompt the question once more, how do you clothe yourself?
The second part of the scripture mentions the word dignity. You may ask what dignity means or what it looks like.
Dignity means “the quality of being worthy of honor or respect.”
Another word for dignity is worthiness and righteousness.
Isn’t it lovely that God knew we as women would need to make this our choice clothing?
He knew that many of us would struggle with our worth and therefore left this reminder for us. This is a beautiful reminder that we ought to clothe ourselves with worthiness and walk in it. Not because of anything we have done, but because of all He has done. He made us right with the Father by going to the cross and therefore we can walk in perfected worth.
The clothing of dignity looks like diving in His Word and letting His life-giving, God-breathed Words gracefully adorn you in worthiness and righteousness. Always remember that your worth comes from what His Word says. He calls you redeemed and chosen. Therefore, clothe yourself accordingly, dear friend.
Heavenly Father,
I ask that You help us remove the garments that we have clothed ourselves with that aren’t pleasing or honoring to You. Help us remove the garments of shame, guilt, fear, anxiety, and condemnation. Clothe us and adorn us in Your matchless beauty. Remind us that how we dress ourselves matter. Help us to walk in step with You so that You can adorn us accordingly.
In Jesus Name,
I pray,
Amen.
