Are We Actively Seeking The Lord?

This is a question I asked myself as I read the first few verses of Luke chapter 19. Have we gotten to a dry season where we have stopped seeking the Lord? Have we lost urgency? Have we lost the desire to ACTIVELY search for The Holy One?

Dear friend, if you have been in a dry season like I have…then this is for you.

In Luke 19, we are introduced to a man named Zacchaeus who was a tax collector. The Bible continues “And he was seeking to see who Jesus was, but on account of the crowd, he could not, because he was small in stature”(Luke 19:3).

One thing to note here is that the Bible states Zacchaeus was “seeking.” This word means to “search for, to find, attempt, and desire.”  This means that Zacchaeus was actively seeking the Lord. His action proved that he was searching for the Holy One.

We cannot be slothful when it comes to seeking the Lord. There needs to be action involved on our end. The Word also says Zacchaeus could not see because he was too short. We see that he encountered an issue that caused him to not be able to see Jesus.

Beloved, what is shadowing and hiding your view from the Holy One?

As we continue on, verse 4 says, “So he ran on ahead and climbed up into a sycamore tree to see Him, for He was about to pass that way.”

Zacchaeus’ issue of being too short did not stop him from searching for the Lord. In fact, we see that he responded with urgency. The Word says that “he ran.” Are we running to Jesus? We also see that he “climbed up” the tree to see Jesus. Zacchaeus went to all lengths to see Jesus for himself. He did not stop at “I’m too short.” He did not stop at “seeking and running” but, he climbed. He pressed even deeper and further to find Jesus. Do we have that same response in our devotional and prayer life with Jesus? Are we so desperate to meet with our Heavenly Father that we cast away every distraction/trial/idol to see Jesus and hear Him more clearly?

Verse 5 says “And when Jesus came to the place, He looked up and said to him, “Zacchaeus, hurry and come down, for I must stay at your house today.” We see that Jesus acknowledged his active seeking. And because of that, Jesus opened the doors for intimate fellowship with him. In verse 6 it continues, “So he hurried and came down and received Him joyfully.” Zacchaeus answered the Lord without delay. He answered quickly. Are we answering the Lord quickly when He speaks and tugs on our hearts? Are we responding with that same heart of wanting to receive the Lord and His words with joy?

In closing, the last verses state, “And when they saw it, they all grumbled, “He has gone in to be the guest of a man who is a sinner.” And Zacchaeus stood and said to the Lord, “Behold Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor. And if I have defrauded anyone of anything, I restore it fourfold.” And Jesus said “Today salvation has come to this house…For the Son of Man came to seek the lost” (Luke 19:7-10).

That is what the Lord does. He desires close fellowship with sinners like us. That we may receive Him and receive new life in Him. That we may walk in newness with a renewed Spirit.

Zacchaeus responded to the Lord in repentance and received Salvation.

May we actively seek the Lord never being slothful when it comes to searching for Him. May we respond in repentance ready to receive all He desires to give us in those moments of prayer and devotional time with Him.

Let’s dig deeper and press on ladies! He has so much He desires to give you! Praying you receive it and Him joyfully!

With much love for my sisters in Christ.
