I have not found a time where God’s word seems more personal than right now. If your circumstances are anything like mine, you too can understand the uncertainty of the times. How long will my job keep me? Where will my next paycheck come from? How will I feed my family? Will we be able to pay our bills? How will I support my family through this time? Why is God allowing these things to happen?
First dear friend, may you find comfort knowing that you are not alone and the same burden that has hit you has hit the world.
We are quick to doubt God’s faithfulness when things get tough. Oh how easy it is to succumb in fear and doubt when the world around us is crumbling down. Proverbs 24:10 says, “If you faint in the day of adversity, then your strength is small.” Does this strike any of you like it does me? If this is you, then you might be wondering, Then how can I be strong?
First, we must admit that while the intention might have been good, we were merely striving in our own strength. Perhaps, you trusted in your company to keep you employed and provide health insurance for you and your family, or your trusted in your spouse’s job to provide, or maybe you trusted in your own wit and cleverness to figure out a way to fix your circumstances. The problem with all this is that trust was invested into something that cannot sustain. When we place our trust in things, we are quickly disappointed and when we trust in man, we quickly realize, they cannot meet all our expectations.
I hope it comforts you when I say, this is good! They were not designed to sustain! If that saddens you, do not fret because there is hope!
Psalms 20:7 says, “Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the LORD our God.” If the strongest of earthen vessels were meant to protect you, things that seemed the most financially, physically, or emotionally stable, but cannot, where can you then place your trust? Where can you run for help in times of trouble?
What I am about to say is CRAZY! But these times, are both a GIFT and a TEST. It is a gift from God to teach us that those things we were placing our trust in fails. It is a gift from Him to point us to an unfailing, unchanging, and unending God.
It is a test to see which individuals will turn their ways back from themselves to Him!! It is a gift to be given another chance to flourish in the amazing ways of God and enjoy all His benefits!
He is a refuge, a strength, and a very present help in times of trouble (Psalm 46:1). Psalms 46 is all about the incentives of placing your trust in God. It befits times like these when it seems the earth is giving way, when the mountains around us are crashing down, and when the waters roar.
Friend, I want to invite you to partake of these blessings and promises of everlasting protection and provision. I want to invite you to engage with God by simply placing your trust in Him so that you and your family can have rest.
“Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!” The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.” – Psalm 46:10-11
Heavenly Father,
Help us to switch our gaze from us to you. Deliver us in these times of uncertainty. Do not give us away to fear, but strengthen our faith. You hold my trust.
In Christ,
Amen
